Where are you located?
North Iowa Counseling, LLC has two convenient locations. Our Waverly office is located in the upper level of the Waverly Senior Center at 506 E Bremer Ave. Our Charles City office is located in the Floyd County Medical Center at 800 11th St.
What hours are you available?
Our current hours of operation are:
Monday: 10am-3pm; 6pm-9pm
Thursday: 10am-3pm; 6pm-9pm
Are walk-in appointments available?
Not at this time. Same day appointments may be available. You will need to call to check availability.
Do you have a 24-hour crisis line?
No. You are free to call the main line 24/7 and if I am unavailable leave a message on the confidential voicemail. I will return your call as soon as possible. In the case of a life threatening emergency, call 9-1-1 or go to your local ER. If you are not in serious danger but would like to have someone to talk to, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
How much do you charge?
Initial assessment for either mental health or addiction is $150.
OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) assessment is $125.
SAP (DOT) evaluations with 2 follow-up appointments are $475.
Individual therapy sessions are $100.
Payment is expected at the time of services.
What are my options for payment?
I am currently able to accept cash or check at the time of appointment, or you can be billed online and pay by debit/credit card.
What if I need to cancel?
If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I ask that you provide me with 24-hour notice. If you miss a session without canceling, or cancel with less than 24-hour notice, my policy is to collect the no-show/late cancellation fee equal to the cost of your full appointment time [unless we both agree that you were unable to attend due to circumstances beyond your control]. This would not be covered by insurance.
Do you accept insurance?
I am currently able to accept Aetna, United Healthcare, Midland’s Choice, BlueCross Blue Shield, Amerigroup, Iowa Total Care, Medicaid, and Cigna for insurances. You will be responsible for any copays. You are encouraged to contact your insurance to ensure that services would be covered prior to scheduling.
What is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)?
CBT aims to help people become aware of when they make negative interpretations, and of behavioral patterns that reinforce the distorted thinking. Cognitive therapy helps people to develop alternative ways of thinking and behaving which aims to reduce their psychological distress. Trauma-focused CBT targets emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with trauma.
What is dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)?
DBT is a cognitive behavioral treatment developed by Marsha Linehan, PhD. It emphasizes individual therapy and group skills training to help people learn and develop new skills and strategies to develop a life that they experience as worth living.
What is eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)?
EMDR is an integrative therapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporate elements from many different treatment approaches.
What is parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT)?
PCIT is a dyadic behavioral intervention for children aged 2-7 and their parents. The focus of PCIT is decreasing externalizing child behavior problems, i.e. defiance and aggression, increasing child social skills and cooperation, and improving the parent-child attachment relationship.
